I am from Manistee and I started to learn to ski with my family when I was three years old at Crystal Mountain. All through my childhood I learned how to ski race with the Manistee Ski Club and then also with the Manistee High School Ski Team. When I was really young, I started out at the club level and then moved onto USSA racing when I was around 10 or 11. In high school I became a three-time All-State First Team Skier and even a 2009 Giant Slalom State Champ. During that time I also played soccer with the local club, TBAYS North Storm, the Alliance FC out of Grand Rapids, and then the Manistee High School team.
After high school, I started to attend Grand Valley State University in Allendale, MI. There I am currently studying Exercise Science with emphasis in a clinical setting and I plan on graduating in the Spring of 2014. In 2011, I completed my 100 and 200 level USSA coaches certification. Going out to Copper Mountain with my dad's camp and coming home for Christmas to ski with NASA is something I still look forward to every year.
Ever since I was little, I loved going fast and because of that I was able to be competitive in a sport that I couldn't get enough of. More important than the competition, ski racing in USSA and high school gave me the opportunity to make a ton of really good friends, both boys and girls, all over the state of Michigan. Skiing is more than just a sport, it's a life experience. Racing may be over, but my desire to go out and hit the slopes is still as high as its ever been.
